Vitalic Celebrates 20 Years of “OK Cowboy”

Twenty years on, Vitalic reissues his landmark debut “OK Cowboy” in a remastered anniversary edition, a cornerstone of French Touch 2.0.

Vitalic, French electronic music producer

“OK Cowboy 20Y” is the 20th-anniversary reissue of Vitalic’s debut album “OK Cowboy,” released November 14, 2025. Remastered and expanded with bonus and unreleased tracks, it celebrates a record widely seen as a cornerstone of French Touch 2.0.

Some debut albums announce a talent. A few change the sound of a scene. Vitalic’s “OK Cowboy” did the second. Two decades after its 2005 release, the French producer reissues his landmark debut as “OK Cowboy 20Y,” a remastered anniversary edition that confirms its place in the canon of French electronic music.

A record that rewrote the rules

Released in 2005 and produced under the Vitalic alias (Pascal Arbez-Nicolas, working as Dima), “OK Cowboy” fused techno, acid, Chicago house and raw, distorted energy into something thrillingly new. Tracks like “La Rock 01,” “My Friend Dario” and “Poney Part 1” became anthems, and the album is often described as a precursor to the scratchier, noisier sound of French Touch 2.0, the harder, more aggressive wave that followed the first French Touch generation.

What’s in the 20th-anniversary edition

“OK Cowboy 20Y” presents the complete album remastered, plus additional material: bonus tracks like “You Are My Sun” and “Anatoles,” and a previously unreleased live version of “Fanfare” recorded in 2025. It comes in multiple formats, from 2-LP and CD to a limited collector’s box with rare and unreleased content for the most devoted fans.

A bridge between two eras

Revisiting “OK Cowboy” twenty years on is a reminder of how the French scene kept reinventing itself. Where the first French Touch was filtered, disco-sampling and smooth, Vitalic helped usher in something rawer and more physical, influencing a generation of producers who wanted electronic music with teeth.

A living legacy

The anniversary edition is not just nostalgia. It positions “OK Cowboy” as a living reference, a record still studied, sampled and danced to, and Vitalic as one of the artists who expanded what French electronic music could sound like.
