The performance triggered a genuine resurgence: a new studio version released that September went diamond-certified in France and reached number 3 on the singles chart, and “Nightcall” became the most-searched song on Shazam worldwide during the ceremony. A guitar-driven cover by Irish band Inhaler followed in 2025, further proof the song had outgrown its original scene entirely. For an artist who spent two decades telling other people’s stories through a fictional zombie, Kavinsky spent his final years watching his own music, made under a name most people singing along still couldn’t place, become a genuine global standard.
