Myd, a French DJ-producer on Ed Banger Records, released two new tracks made live on his Twitch channel: “Song for You,” a funk-sampling summer banger, and the more mystical “The Wizard.” “Song for You” samples Popcorn’s 1981 track “A Song for You” and was mastered by Alex Gopher.
He’s back. Myd, our favourite Lille DJ-producer, just released two tracks built for both the dancefloor and everyday headphones: “Song for You” and “The Wizard,” created live on his Twitch channel. And we’ll say it straight: “Song for You” is a banger. The kind of track you loop endlessly. There’s a good chance the Ed Banger producer just signed one of the hits of summer 2025.
From Club Cheval to French Touch 2.0
In just a few years, Myd has become one of the new pillars of the French Touch. Initially a member of the Lille group Club Cheval, he quickly went solo and joined the legendary French label Ed Banger. In 2021 he released “Born a Loser,” a solid debut album, both touching and danceable, including the standout solar hit “The Sun.” He also made waves with fun, unexpected collaborations, notably with his friend Squeezie.
2025 is shaping up to be just as Myd-esque, with a confirmed second album. One catch: he lost his backpack (containing a hard drive full of new tracks) at an airport. Rather than sink, he bounced back and composed two new tracks live on Twitch. The setback became inspiration.
The sample that hits
No need to look far for the inspiration: Myd samples “A Song for You” by Popcorn (James Calvin Ward), a 1981 funk gem. He doesn’t hide it, the original chorus is central to the new hit. With its bittersweet groove, the original had a nostalgic charm that fits Myd’s world perfectly. Like a true sound alchemist, he turns it into a hybrid hit, both retro and ultra-modern: a catchy loop, snapping kicks, and that warm grain we love. Notably, the track was mastered by another French Touch figure, the maestro Alex Gopher.
And the other track?
The second track, “The Wizard,” contrasts with the solar side of “Song for You”, more hypnotic, more mystical. Myd describes it himself as “the kind of track that could make you levitate if you turn it up loud enough.” Between cosmic pads and undulating rhythms, it takes you far.
A live creation, under pressure
Both tracks were composed in one marathon week, live on Twitch, an immersive (and slightly crazy) experience where Myd shared every moment of doubt, inspiration and improvised dancing with his fans. Both tracks are available on streaming everywhere. The album arrives… as soon as Myd finds his backpack.
