The iconic French electronic duo Scratch Massive is back with “Nox Anima,” a new album set to make its mark on 2025. Known for their cinematic world and productions that are both dark and hypnotic, Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenut once again establish themselves as a key reference of the French electronic scene.
A long-awaited album
Since their debut in the 2000s, Scratch Massive built an international reputation with albums like “Nuit de rêve” (2011) and “Garden of Love” (2018), as well as spellbinding film soundtracks and increasingly immersive live shows. Released on Bordel Records, this new record follows their refined discography, between vaporous synthwave, hypnotic beats and melancholic melodies.
With “Nox Anima,” the duo pushes this sensory approach even further. Each track tells a story, like scenes from an imaginary film where synth pads stretch out, bass rumbles and voices echo from afar. The album moves between tension and pure contemplation, playing skilfully with contrasts of darkness and light. The opener “Lost Horizons” sets the tone, while more percussive tracks like “Pulsar” recall the duo’s most intoxicating techno sets.
A standout collaboration with Yelle: “Des Choses”
One of the album’s highlights is “Des Choses,” featuring Yelle, a key figure of French electro-pop. With her crystalline voice and inhabited delivery, Yelle brings a brighter dimension that contrasts with Scratch Massive’s usually darker world. Syncopated beats and vintage synths give the track a mood that’s both nostalgic and danceable, a perfect balance of tension and softness.
And Jeanne Added on “Ghost of Love”
“Nox Anima” also features “Ghost of Love,” in collaboration with Jeanne Added. Known for her powerful voice spanning alternative rock and electro, she brings striking vocal intensity, elevating the track’s synth pads and deep bass. Between dramatic tension and soaring flights, it’s one of the album’s most poignant moments.
A tour to bring “Nox Anima” to the stage
Scratch Massive’s concerts are renowned for their emotional power and striking visuals, with hypnotic projections and enveloping sound. French tour dates were announced including Rennes (April 5), Le Trianon Paris (April 10, sold out) and Festival Art Rock, Saint-Brieuc (June 7).
