Disney+ Is Making a Documentary Series About French Touch

French Touch is finally getting the long-form treatment it’s arguably always deserved. Disney+ announced “Une histoire de la French Touch” (“A History of French Touch”), a three-episode documentary series set to arrive in 2027.

Told by someone who’s done this before
The series is directed by Thibaut de Longeville, who previously made a widely respected documentary about DJ Mehdi, one of the scene’s most influential and most mourned figures. That track record matters here: this isn’t an outside studio parachuting into French electronic music, it’s a filmmaker who’s already spent time with the people and the archives.

From Daft Punk to Modjo, told by the people who lived it
The series will trace French Touch’s arc from Daft Punk through Air, Cassius, Étienne de Crécy and Modjo, with contributions from Pedro Winter, Daft Punk’s former manager and the founder of Ed Banger Records, and Cassius’s Hubert “Boombass” Blanc-Francard. For a genre that’s spent 25 years being written about in music blogs and reissue liner notes, a proper documentary series is overdue.

French Touch has spent 25 years being explained in blog posts, liner notes and, let’s be honest, articles exactly like this one. It’s about time it got the dramatic lighting and sweeping soundtrack treatment too. We’ll be first in line in 2027.
